ORAL HEALTH AND YOUR HEART
Since February is heart month we want to remind our patients that researchers are finding possible links between periodontal disease and heart disease and other health conditions. In fact, research suggests that gum disease may also be a risk factor for heart disease along with hypertension, smoking, cholesterol, gender and age.

Always remember that gum disease is contributed to by plaque buildup. Brush and floss regularly to remove plaque that you can’t see below the gum line. If you remove plaque, you minimize the chance of getting gum disease. Remember to schedule your regular check ups.

OFFICE NEWS and VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:

GIVE KIDS A SMILE DAY AND MISSION of MERCY:These programs were introduced five years ago by the American Dental Association. The Northern Virginia Dental Society coordinates our local programs. Over 200 children and adults, who otherwise could not attain basic dental care, benefit from these programs. Our office team gets great satisfaction in knowing that we are making a difference and we are glad we are able to volunteer for these all day events.

SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS: Our office
also volunteers at local grade schools to teach children about dental health. With our fun interactive presentations in the classrooms, we teach the children how to care for their teeth and gums, encourage them to wear mouthguards for sports, and eat healthy foods. The children love the new toothbrushes they receive!

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Dr. Rye attended the Yankee Dental Conference
in Boston where she attended several lectures and workshops Our staff will also attend the annual Nations Capital Dental meeting where our team members will take various courses to update us on new techniques in the dental field.

Our staff attended a regional infection control class. We like to stay current on any standards and changes which help us provide the best and safest care to our patients.
